Slow Browser: Take Back Control of Chrome and Edge

Pages take an age to load, the fan spins up the moment you open the browser, and everything feels sluggish. Often it is not your connection at fault: it is the browser itself, choked with tabs, extensions and accumulated data. Here is how to make it fast and lightweight again.

1. Close tabs — really close them

Every open tab uses memory, even in the background. Twenty or thirty tabs "kept for later" can suffocate a PC on their own. Close what you do not need right now, and for anything you want to find again, use bookmarks rather than leaving the tab open.

2. Prune your extensions

Extensions are the number-one cause of a heavy browser. Each one runs constantly and some watch every page. Open the extensions page (in Chrome: chrome://extensions, in Edge: edge://extensions) and remove anything you do not use. Keep only the essentials, such as an ad blocker.

Browser code and tabs
A handful of unused extensions is enough to weigh down every page you open.

3. Clear the cache and data

Over time the browser piles up gigabytes of cache and cookies that eventually slow it down. Open History > Clear browsing data, tick Cached images and files and Cookies, pick a time range, then confirm. You will have to sign back in to some sites — that is the only downside.

Nine times out of ten a "slow" browser does not need replacing: it needs emptying of the clutter weighing it down.

4. Find the greedy tabs

Chrome and Edge have their own built-in task manager. Press Shift+Esc (inside the browser) to see which tab or extension is using the most memory and processor. That reveals the real culprit, and you can close it with one click.

5. Update the browser

An out-of-date version is slower and less secure. Open Menu > Help > About: the browser checks for and installs the latest version, then restarts. Updates regularly bring genuine performance gains.

6. The deep clean: reset settings

If nothing else works, reset the browser to its original settings (under Settings > Reset). This disables extensions and restores the default home page and search engine, but keeps your bookmarks and passwords. It is often the most drastic and effective fix.

The shortcut: let Yuna7 do it

Doing all this by hand, in every browser, takes time. That is why we built Yuna7: you say "my browser is slow", the AI spots the greedy extensions, clears the built-up cache, updates, and disables what is slowing you down — showing you every step. You approve anything sensitive, it acts.
